![]() When you enroll in the Inkscape Master Class you will be granted access to our private community and I can personally answer any questions you may have about Inkscape or clarify the contents of any lesson if you're having trouble understanding it. This allows me to focus on providing the most useful information possible without having to worry about appeasing the YouTube algorithm or basing my lessons on what gets the most clicks. Since this is a premium video series, there are no ads and no self-promotion. I'm able to subsidize free tutorials on YouTube by running third party ads and promoting my own products and services. Here's a sample lesson on using the Arrange tool. After completing the course you should have a solid understanding of everything Inkscape has to offer and how you can use it yourself.Įach lesson is in video format where I share my screen with you, explain each feature, and demonstrate how it works. If you've ever followed one of my YouTube tutorials and wondered why rather than how, this course is the answer to that question. ![]() Think of it as an interactive user manual, in video format, that you can refer to any time you want. Mess with it until you have it the way you want it, then do Path > Object to path again. The Inkscape Master Class is a comprehensive series of 50+ videos where I go over every tool, feature and function in Inkscape and explain what it is, how it works, and why it's useful. Remember to grab your right-hand green handle, and start dragging. Click on Path > Path effects, and choose your Hatches again. Nick creates amazing logos tutorials in his YouTube. Path effects don't work on text unless you click Path > Object to path to start, then we'll do it again when we are finished. Another excellent example of Inkscape used commercially is Nick Saporito, a Philadelphia graphic designer. Let's do this with some text! It works best with heavier text, so I'm going to use the Impact font. When you get it the way you want it, click on Path > Object to path, and your Path effects window will empty and you won't be able to make any more changes. One of the settings is for thickness, and I set two of them to 10.00.Īs long as you're messing with it, you can change things, and undo to your heart's content. Your hatch should start curving.ĭepending on how far you drag, you'll get more curve. Now drag the right-hand handle to the right. ![]() Grab the left-hand yellow handle and drag it to the left. The left handle is the starting point for the curve and the right hand handle increases the curve when you move it farther away from the starting handle. You can rotate that handle all the way around to create the angle you want. If you rotated the handle at all, you noticed that the hatch direction changed. The green ones control the density and direction of the hatches, and the yellow ones allow you to curve them.Ĭlick on the right-hand green handle and move it towards the other green handle. However, you'll also see four handles, two green and two yellow. I'm sure you've noticed that this is a far cry from the square that was there at first. The effect will be applied, and you'll also get a settings window. ![]() This window has about 40 effects, in alphabetical order, so you should be able to find what you want pretty quickly, but just in case, there is a search box at the top. At the bottom, it says Click button to add an effect, and there's a plus sign in the bottom left corner of the window.Ĭlick on the plus sign, and the following window appears: The window you get has nothing because this is a new project and you haven't chosen any path effects for it yet. You can apply the path effect to nearly anything, and most of what I'll explain here is the settings included to make things look the way you want. Sketch Effect uses the path effect, Hatches, and it's kinda fun. One tutorial I enjoyed was one called the Sketch Effect. I've been looking at some of the Inkscape tutorials on the YouTube channel " Logos by Nick". Inkscape Tutorial: Create A Sketch Effect
